Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion by cardiac MRI has poor correlation with RVEF in pediatric patients

چکیده
Background Cardiovascular MRI (CMR) assessment of ventricular function in patients with RV pathology requires contouring the right ventricle, which can be time-consuming due to its abnormal shape and extensive trabeculations. A semi-quantitative method to assess RV function in this patient population would be beneficial and would allow for rapid reporting of results. A recent study demonstrated a high correlation of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion as measured by CMR (MR-TAPSE) with RVEF in adult patients. In this study, we evaluated whether MR-TAPSE is a feasible alternative to assess RV function in children and young adults with a broad range of body surface areas (BSA).

Right ventricular systolic function for risk stratification in patients with stable left ventricular systolic dysfunction: comparison of radionuclide angiography to echoDoppler parameters.
AIMS Previous studies have demonstrated that the radionuclide right ventricular (RV) ejection fraction (RVEF), tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), and tissue Doppler peak systolic tricuspid annular velocity (STr) were independent predictors of cardiac survival in stable patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD). No study has compared the prognostic value of thes...
متن کاملValidation of echocardiographic indices of right ventriclular systolic function with cardiac magnetic resonance: a comparative study
Introduction Right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) is an important predictor of outcome in heart failure patients. Although cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) assessment of RV function is considered gold standard and echocardiographic measurement of RVEF is challenging due to its unique geometry; CMR still has limited availability in the wider community. Therefore alternative echocardiograph...
متن کاملComparison of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion with fractional area change for the evaluation of right ventricular systolic function: a meta-analysis
Background Accurate determination of right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) is challenging because of the unique geometry of the right ventricle. Tricuspidannular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) and fractional area change (FAC) are commonly used echocardiographic quantitative estimates of RV function. Cardiac MRI (CMRI) has emerged as the gold standard for assessment of RVEF. We sought to ...
متن کاملTricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) revisited using CMR
Background The tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), which has been used for over a quarter century as a quick estimate of RV systolic function, was revisited using CMR. It shows good correlation with invasive hemodynamics. MRI is the current gold standard to assess the volumes and anatomy of the heart and we can measure TAPSE more precisely with cardiac MRI to accurately detect a...
متن کاملAssessment of right ventricular function using two-dimensional echocardiography.
With the use of two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE), we analyzed apical and subcostal four-chamber views for evaluation of right ventricular (RV) function in 30 individuals as compared to RV ejection fraction (RVEF) obtained by radionuclide angiography. In addition to previously reported parameters of changes in areas and chords, a new simple measurement of tricuspid annular excursion was co...
